Who is going to understand? Who won't judge?
SOLUTION-FOCUSED BRIEF THERAPY (SFBT)
Your time, energy, and well-being are important, but it is not infinite.
SFBT means that we begin addressing where an individual is at today. What made you look for help? What is the pressing issue?
SFBT means figuring out the obstacle and seeking a solution in a matter of a few sessions, not over months or years.
The amount of time an individual is able to put in depends on several factors, including financial and to what extent a particular issue is impacting the individual's life.

My counseling practice is based on:
-
science
-
education
-
experience
-
non-judgmental listening
-
client-centered solutions
-
compassionate solution-focused brief therapy
This means: let's address what made you search for help today.

Safe Spaces
My goal is always to grow and understand, to constantly learn through curiosity.
I believe everyone has the right to seek help and feel safe to share.
I strive to always be culturally sensitive and to the best of my ability, remain neutral while you explore the paths that are aligned within your beliefs systems.
I am sensitive to the needs of individuals identifying with the LGBTQ2S community and am regularly involved with Canadian Indigenous communities including residential school survivors.

Needing help understanding a loved one or peer
My counseling practice also provides support and information-based education for those trying to understand.
Family, friends and coworkers who are caregivers and support staff for others struggling with mental health and substance misuse need help too.
I believe that a little education can go a long way. People find it supportive to learn about specific mental health diagnosis including different addiction disorders to various substances, and ways to help. You are not alone.

Why do I believe in this approach?
I have worked within public systems bogged down with red-tape and wasted funding.
I have worked for publicly funded and private organizations costing families thousands of dollars hoping for a miracle from the health issue of substance dependencies.
Working within a private practice means I can respond accordingly to the needs of individual clients and provide the information, variety of approaches, resources and advocacy that people need access to. It means that solutions to fit an individual can be very flexible and creative.
*NOTE: Withdrawal and detox require licensed and supervised medical support. Please ensure that any facility that is offering these supports has actual professionals with the legal certifications.

Are your or a loved one's relationships and responsibilities, schooling or careers full of tension or worry? Are decisions and obstacles overwhelming?
How we decide to manage challenging times can mean the difference between chaos or calm.
If left ignored, all can contribute to an unbalanced, emotionally confusing time.
It even increases your risk for illness, relapses and feelings of loneliness.

Counseling and life-coaching does not have to be months or years of invested time and money to see results. I listen carefully to work with compassion and efficiency to help identify where you are at now. We work to identify what your priorities are, and what goals you wish to aim for. I help you to move aside of life's whirlwinds, and facilitate your next steps forward with hope and exciting possibilities.

CBT: Cognitive behavior therapy
DBT: Dialectical behavior therapy

CBT seeks to give a person the ability to recognize when their thoughts might become troublesome, and gives them techniques to redirect those thoughts. DBT helps a person find ways to accept themselves, feel safe, and manage their emotions to help regulate potentially destructive or harmful behaviors.
